Launching a credit card-thin bitcoin wallet, Taiwan start-up CoinTech receives investment from Japanese financial group SBI

CoolBitX, a Taiwanese blockchain startup that produces cold wallets for bitcoin, announced that it has received a strategic investment from Japanese financial group SBI, becoming a member of the SBI blockchain ecosystem, which will bring more business opportunities for CoolBitX.

Taiwan-based blockchain start-up CoolBitX, which produces cold wallets for bitcoin, announced that it has received a strategic investment from Japanese financial conglomerate SBI and has also become a key player in the SBI cryptocurrency ecosystem, providing offline storage solutions for cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin wallets made in Taiwan are a global hit as Bitcoin invests too

Founded in 2014, Coin Technology develops and produces software and hardware for offline storage of cryptocurrencies, and helps cryptocurrency holders reduce the risk of loss from hacker attacks through physical cards and mobile apps. Its first generation physical Bitcoin wallet "CoolWallet" has sold over 100,000 units worldwide since its launch in 2015, across Europe, America, Asia and other regions.

While Coolcoin Technologies isn't the only company making physical Bitcoin wallets, CoolWallet manages to be as thin as a credit card compared to the Bitcoin wallets on the market that are mostly in the shape of a USB stick (USB). In addition, CoolWallet is the only wallet that provides Bluetooth connectivity for iOS and Android devices. With the card's built-in electronic screen, Bluetooth, and lithium battery, users can simply look at the card's screen to see the current transaction process and bitcoin balance.

In addition to Bitcoin wallets, CoinTech's products include Slekt, a card that can integrate multiple credit cards, and has successfully entered South Korea in 2017 in partnership with KT (Korea Telecom), the second largest telecom provider in the country.

In terms of past fundraising results, CoinTech received a seed round of $500,000 in March 2017 and also raised 280,000 stars (about $200,000) from Singapore's first equity crowd-funding platform in January of the same year, with Kyber Capital, BitMain, the world's largest bitcoin mining company, and Asia-Pacific venture capital firm Midana Capital as shareholders behind it.

Exchanges, wallet vendors, string together SBI blockchain ecosystem

The Japanese financial group SBI, which invested in Cointech this time, has been planning the layout of the cryptocurrency ecosystem since 2016, including mining, exchanges, systems, financial services, and financial derivative commodities. blockchain alliance R3, UK cryptocurrency payment company Wirex, Thai FinTech start-up Omise, which has issued cryptocurrencies, and bitFlyer, Japan's largest cryptocurrency exchange, have all been invested by SBI.

Not only that, SBI is also a partner of blockchain payment start-up Ripple, whose subsidiary SBI Ripple Asia announced in December last year that it would work with some Japanese credit card companies to adopt Ripple's payment network RippleNep.

As you can imagine, being a part of SBI's dense blockchain network will bring more business opportunities for CoinTech.

In addition to the announcement of joining SBI, the second generation of CoinTech's product "CoolWallet S" was officially launched this month. Compared to the first generation, which can only store Bitcoin, CoolWallet S can support iOS and Android, and can store Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Ripple (XRP), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) in the first phase, and more ERC20 cryptocurrencies are expected to be added in the future.
