Results of the BCH stress test


On May 15, 2018, BCH underwent a hard fork expansion that increased the block capacity to 32M. How much trading volume can the newly upgraded 32M blocks actually carry? Does it cause some technical problems with the network? Will it be congested? All of this lacks empirical data support.

From September 1 to September 2, the Bitcoin Cash community conducted a stress test on the BCH network, which started at 20:00 on September 1.

What is the BCH stress test

Simply put, stress testing is the process of testing the operation of the BCH network by creating a large amount of transaction data.

The main purpose is to test whether BCH's fees and transaction hours can remain at an extremely low level despite high frequency transactions, to demonstrate BCH's capacity and scalability, and to provide supporting data for developers and businesses of DApps running on the BCH network.

How to view test results

We can view BCH transaction data and packaged block sizes and other information through blockchain browsers such as Blockchair, BTC.com, Bitcoin.com, etc.

There are also some visualization tools that can be used to get a more intuitive feel for the test.

URL https://txhighway.com/. The site uses a 32-lane highway to represent the BCH network and a single lane to represent the BTC network, using the size of the vehicle and speed of passage to represent block size and transaction speed.

bitcoinsubway

URL: https://bitcoinsubway.cash/. It shows a subway station, using a one-car subway to represent the BTC network, a multi-car subway to represent the BCH network, and passengers to represent the transactions to be processed. We get a real-time feel for how the BTC/BCH network is processing transactions through the dynamics of waiting room passengers.

txstreet

URL: https://txstreet.com/. Similar design to bitcoinsubway, except that the subway is replaced with buses, representing a larger number of buses on the BCH network. The waiting time for a transaction can be judged by the status of passengers waiting in line for the bus.

Test results

At 20:00 on 2 September, the 24-hour stress test ended with the following key results.

1.Daily trading volume exceeds 2 million

On September 1, the BCH network processed over 2,103,700 transactions. BCH has already broken the 24-hour transaction processing records of Ripple (1.7 million transactions/day) and Ether (1.2 million transactions/day). On Sept. 2, 1,370,400 transactions were processed.

Also, according to fork.lol, the BCH network once processed 85,835 transactions an hour at 23.8 per second .

2.Maximum block up to 21.3M

At 20:29:41 on 02/09/09 , block height 546104 was hit, hitting the largest block during the test. The block size of 21,354,763 Bytes , containing 95,861 transactions, set a new maximum block size.

3.Transaction fees have not increased

9.On the 1st day, the average fee was $0.0017, maintaining a relatively low level. proves that BCH is capable of handling a large number of transactions while keeping fees low.

Overall, the test was a great success. Even with the addition of many transactions, the BCH network can process them in a timely manner and with low fees. This can give confidence to more users and businesses. After all. Getting more people to use it makes the network more valuable
