Samsung launches true 8K QLED TV: AI boosts picture in four sizes available
On August 30, Samsung announced a batch of new TVs at IFA, called the Q900R QLED 8K. As the name implies, this is Samsung Electronics' first foray into the 8K resolution class.
Samsung QLED 8K TVs come in four extra-large screen sizes - 65", 75", 82" and 85" - and offer a variety of 8K enhancements, including True 8K resolution, Q HDR 8K, Quantum Processor 8K and more, as well as support for the new 8K AI Upscaling technology, and the new Samsung QLED 8K will be officially launched at the end of September.
According to Samsung officials, in order to get 8K quality images, the Samsung Q900R has a true 8K resolution and is capable of reaching a peak brightness of 4000 nits. 4000 nits is also the standard most studios reach. This feature allows the TV to produce four times more pixels than a 4K resolution TV and 16 times more pixels than a FHD resolution TV.
The Q HDR 8K feature is based on HDR 10+ technology, which optimizes the brightness of the TV picture and generates original colors and images, and can also be used for image delivery.
Samsung's exclusive 8K AI Upscaling technology is based on the trendy artificial intelligence technology. With this technology, images and sound compatible with 8K resolution are available in real time, regardless of the quality or format of the original video source. Whether users are importing content for viewing via streaming services, set-top boxes, HDMI, USB or mobile devices, the Quantum Dot Processor 8K recognizes and enhances the content, presenting it in 8K resolution quality.
In addition, the Samsung Q900R TV features Direct Full Array Elite for contrast enhancement and precise backlight control, as well as 100 percent color volume, support for billions of shades, and the purest color accuracy.
The Samsung Q900R can also link smart home features via Samsung phones, such as SmartThings built into Samsung phones as an enhancement to boost information access, provide personalized suggestions, and find OTT content in real time. The Ambient Mode feature displays content such as beautiful wallpapers, live weather and news on the TV screen. In addition, the TV also supports recognition and analysis of connected entertainment devices, such as connections to audio devices via data cable, and then automatically switches the TV's image source and audio output.
